I'm author ELLE STRAUSS and welcome to my website!

I write fun, lower Young Adult (teen) fiction to do with whimsical things like time-travel, fairies and merfolk.

When my serious side peeks out, she's called LEE STRAUSS. She likes to write upper YA about real things that have happened in the past, or made up things that could quite possibly happen in the future.

This blog is about books, mine and other fab authors', but occasionally I'll share about other topics.

Thanks for dropping by!

Friday Four or Five--It's Friday again?

1. I mean, yeah, that's good, I love Fridays, but I just can't believe it's here already. I remember my dad saying how he wakes up on Monday and goes to bed on Friday, and I get what he means now. When did life become such a blur?

2. Gotta love the internet. Seems there is a weekly scandal of some sort going on. I'm more of an observer than an engager, so I usually sit and wait for the dust to settle before jumping in, because many times the conflict-du-jour fades as quickly as it comes.

This week it seems the gloves are off between writers--those who indie/self-publish and those who traditionally publish. I'm not going to share links because if you want to find them you can. I'm just going to say....Give Peace a Chance...

No, really. There's no need for name-calling or label-giving (ahem: self-publishing =amateurs) or defensiveness. If you want to go traditional, go traditional, if you want to DIY, DIY.

For the record, I LOVE being an independent author and I'm just so thankful that technology is at a place where we have that option. It's all about having a choice, people!

3. Don't forget the pay-it-forward event coming up--INDIEpendents Day, July 2 -5th. I can't wait to highlight indie author Bella Street. It's not too late to sign up.

4. I got my cover for SEAWEED today *happy dancing*. I'm not showing it to you yet, (because I'm mean that way=), but just know that it's coming soon.  I posted the blurb on my Facebook Author page if you want to read it.

5. It's company season at the Strauss house. Germans this weekend, Romanians next. Big local music festival involved. In case I'm quiet on the blogosphere, you'll know why.

Happy Weekend, everyone!

  1. Yay for new covers! And for local music festivals :-)

I don't get the fuss over indie-vs-traditional, either. Both sides have advantages and disadvantages, one is never going to make the other obsolete, and as writers, shouldn't we ALL be happy that people are still reading enough books even to make this debate worthwhile?

That's my two cents, anyway. But then, I haven't been interested in picking fights since I was a teenager. :-)

  2. Fridays to seem to creep up more quickly lately. Have a great time at the local festivals. Those are always a good time!

  3. People in professions will always slag each other off, I'm afraid.

  4. Can't wait to see your new cover. :-D

I know what you mean. Honestly I can't see what the whole fight between trad and indie publishing is about. Both are just a means to an end to me.

    Hope you enjoy your visitors!
