I'm author ELLE STRAUSS and welcome to my website!

I write fun, lower Young Adult (teen) fiction to do with whimsical things like time-travel, fairies and merfolk.

When my serious side peeks out, she's called LEE STRAUSS. She likes to write upper YA about real things that have happened in the past, or made up things that could quite possibly happen in the future.

This blog is about books, mine and other fab authors', but occasionally I'll share about other topics.

Thanks for dropping by!

Friday Four or Five

1. I've been pinned! Yes, I joined Pinterest and after a little effort, figured out how to pin images on my boards. I definitely see the attraction and I've only just begun, bwahahaha. You can follow me and my crazy boards.

2. CLOCKWISE is getting a makeover--a new cover will be revealed SOON.

3. If you missed my last post, Kirkus Reviews got their hands on Clockwise.

4. Love this post by James Scott Bell at the Kill Zone: You Don't Have to Be a Star. This is one of the great things about the new indie revolution--you can make a living without being a household name. You don't have to be a NYT bestselling author. You just need a few good books and a cult following. I'm not there myself yet, but I know people who are there and it's working for them. G.P Ching author of the Soulkeepers Series, Sarra Cannon, author of the Demons of Peachville High Series, and Addison Moore, author of the Celestra Series. These are just a few of the successful indie authors I'm aware of.

How about you? Do you know of an indie author who's not "a star" but doing well? If so, please share in the comments!

  1. One of my aunts refuses to read any book that's part of a series (she was even leery about starting the Narnia books til I assured her they were pretty much stand-alones set in the same world) just because she hates cliffhangers SO much. Me, I love series that feature the same characters as before in a completely new adventure - or, if it's a trilogy with an over-arching storyline, at least finishing COMPLETELY one phase before the next story in the book. - "Tomorrow would bring its own challenges, but for today, they could put their feet up and enjoy some of the peace they had earned through their labors. THE END."

(And I'm hooked on Pinterest, too!)

    1. Are we friends/followers on Pin? I'm still figuring everything out. so far I haven't had to "do" anything to gain followers, which is kind of nice.

    1. I do have a pin it button, but I'm not sure if it works :)

You get the code from their site(gadgets, I think) but they don't tell you where to put it. I followed instruction I had for stumbleupon to add the code to the HTML. That's how I got the pin it button in there, but I lost the stumbleupon button! oh well. :)

  4. Ooh, definitely going to hop over to read your post about stand-alones. Personally, I'm not a big fan of series. There are some good ones, for sure, but I do love a good stand-alone!

  5. I hadn't really gotten to know which Indie authors actually "just write" for a living so I, unfortunately, don't have any examples to share. But thanks for the ones you shared. Have to go check them out.

And I'm on Pinterest but I try not to go there often. I can kill a whole day just pinning things to my boards. Le sigh.

  6. I guess I'm on equal footing with Pinterest and Twitter, I have accounts but I'm not seeing the attraction yet. I guess I just need to sit down and experiment with it some more! :)

  7. Hey, Elle. I really enjoyed this post... You always give me something to ponder... If an author is awesome I love the continuing saga, the breakneck speed reading to the bitter end series thing... if the story gets tired, then so do I.

    I know I'll give Pinterest a whirl... it's inevitable. :)
